Kelley Holdren Obituary: Air & Surface Transport Nurses Association former President dies at 48

Dyer, IN – Kelley Joyce Holdren, nee Smith, age 48, of Dyer, IN, passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2023. Beloved wife of Cliff Holdren III. Dear mother of Isabella and Hannah Holdren. Dear sister of Kathy Smith, late Matthew (Rebecca) Smith, Mark (Shawna) Smith, Luke Smith, and Darcy (Chris) Scandura. Aunt of Tyler, Kiley, Jessica, Brieana, and Matthew. Cherished daughter of Carol and the late James Smith.

Kelley was chief flight nurse and program director of UCAN at the University of Chicago Hospital. She served as the President of the Air & Surface Transport Nurses Association (ASTNA). She was loved by many and will be dearly missed. ASTNA paid tribute by sharing a post on social media, stating,

Dear ASTNA and critical care transport colleagues,

It is with a heavy heart that I share the somber news of the passing of our esteemed colleague, Kelley Holdren, who served as the President of the Air & Surface Transport Nurses Association. Kelley battled cancer with unwavering courage and resilience, leaving an indelible mark on our industry.

Kelley was not only a visionary leader but also a compassionate individual whose dedication to ASTNA and the transport industry was unparalleled. Her legacy will continue to inspire us all as we remember the significant contributions she made to our field.

During this difficult time, our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to Kelley’s family, friends, and colleagues who shared in her journey. As a close-knit community, let us come together to support one another and honor Kelley’s memory.
