Julio Gomez obituary: Young boy passes away in car accident in New Milford, CT

New Milford, Connecticut – The New Milford community is grieving the tragic loss of Julio Gomez, a 17-year-old senior student at New Milford High School. Julio was identified as the victim of a devastating three-vehicle collision that occurred on Route 7 in New Milford on a fateful Friday night. The accident, which took place near Italy Mia Restaurant at approximately 2:30 in the afternoon, also resulted in injuries to three other individuals.

Reports indicate that the collision unfolded when a Hyundai Tucson attempted to enter the restaurant from the left southbound lane and was struck by an Infiniti G35 traveling northbound in the right lane of Route 7. Subsequently, the Infiniti was involved in a collision with a Nissan Rogue traveling south on Route 7.

Tragically, Julio Gomez, a passenger in the Infiniti, was pronounced dead at the scene. Skylar Fitch, a 17-year-old driver described as Julio’s classmate, was rushed to Danbury Hospital and is currently listed in critical condition. The passenger in the Nissan, a 29-year-old, was initially taken to Danbury Hospital in critical condition but was later transferred to another hospital, with no updated information available at the time of this report. The 48-year-old driver of the Nissan is in stable condition at Danbury Hospital.

According to New Milford Police, this incident marks the 172nd crash on the Danbury Road stretch of Route 7 this year, with four of them resulting in fatalities. Mayor Bass expressed concerns about safety on this stretch of road and reminded the community that improvements to Route 7, a state highway passing through New Milford, are the responsibility of the Department of Transportation. Additionally, bereavement counselors from the nearby mental health facility, Fortitude Center, are available to provide support to high school students grappling with this tragic loss.
