News Jono Lancaster
A 37-year-old resident of West Yorkshire has described how his biological parents rejected him because of a facial problem, making him “hate” for his appearance. Since then, he has learned to accept his true self and support those who are battling their own problems. Treacher Collins syndrome, which affects the way a baby’s facial structure develops in the womb, is a disease that Jono Lancaster has.
He shared his personal experiences with the BBC, including how he was abused at school, rejected by his parents and prevented from having a romantic relationship as a teenager. He explained his situation by saying, “I don’t have cheekbones, so that’s what my eyes look like.”
He added, patting his ears, “I call them my little Bart Simpson’s ears.” Despite having many fond memories of his school days, the inspirational speaker affirms that he constantly tries to fit in and be like everyone else.
When he reminisces about high school, he says, “I have a lot of great memories, but I also had a lot of trouble trying to fit in.
Older children often pull their eyeballs. They will make up songs or hymns about me. “It didn’t really happen to me as I got older and people started having relationships,” he continued. And that’s when I started to hate my face so much.
Jon was abandoned by his biological parents when he was a baby and was adopted by a kind family. At the age of 24, he came across an article that proved what he most suspected – that his parents abandoned him because of his appearance – was true.

“I sat down and read these notes, and the language was horrible,” he commented. It continued by saying that my biological parents were appalled by my appearance. “My biological parents left within 36 hours of my birth.”
He said, “I get really angry when I think about my biological parents. I wanted to hurt them as much as I did. Despite his anger, he tried to find a way to contact those who had shunned him because of his appearance.
