Jihad Gasaway found dead in car on I-80, Cedar Rapids man charged

A Cedar Rapids man, Jihad Abdul-Malik Gasaway, has been charged with abuse of a corpse after an incident on Interstate 80. Iowa State Patrol troopers discovered a deceased male with apparent gunshot wounds in Gasaway’s car parked on the shoulder of I-80 under the 80th St overpass. The incident took place near Grinnell, and emergency personnel responded to the scene after a report of a shooting victim.

When troopers approached Gasaway, he claimed his car had stalled and needed a jump start. He informed the troopers about having a firearm, which was secured by the authorities. However, Gasaway did not inform them about the deceased individual in the car. The troopers found the body covered with clothing in an attempt to conceal it.

Gasaway was subsequently charged with abuse of a corpse and booked into the Poweshiek County Jail on a $50,000 cash-only bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 12th. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
