The communities of Lynn and Peabody, Massachusetts, are collectively mourning the unexpected and heartbreaking death of Richard J. Sims, Sr., a retired Peabody Police Department Sergeant. Richard, affectionately known as Rick Sims, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, leaving his family and friends devastated. He was 67 years old.
Rick Sims, born to the late Frank R. and Angelina M. (Sequeira) Sims, spent the majority of his life in Peabody, having been raised in both Lynn and Peabody. He was a graduate of Peabody High School and pursued further education at Framingham State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in sociology, and Anna Maria College, where he achieved a master’s degree in criminal justice.
After many dedicated years of service, Richard retired as a Sergeant from the Peabody Police Department. In addition to his law enforcement career, he was the owner of Sims Brothers Painting. During his children’s formative years, he actively participated in their lives, coaching them and attending their various sporting events and activities. Family vacations were cherished, and he had a special fondness for the game of hoops.
Richard Sims is survived by his siblings, Frank R. Sims and his wife Donna, John H. Sims, Margaret L. (Dolly) Evans and her husband Atlas, Hanford F. Sims and his wife Joanne, and Antone R. Sims. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Additionally, Richard is survived by his three children, Jessica Sims, Jillian (Sims) Ricci and her husband Joseph, and his former spouse, Jo Ann (Fabiano) Sims.
The passing of Richard Sims has left a void in the hearts of those who knew him, and the communities of Lynn and Peabody come together to mourn the loss of a respected individual who served both in law enforcement and as a dedicated family man.
