Hubert Hurkacz was born in Wroclaw, Poland on February 11, 1997, as the first of two children to Zofia Maliszewska-Hurkacz and Krzysztof Hurkacz. Nika, his ten-year-old younger sister, also plays tennis. Hurkacz was raised in an athletic household.
His mother was a Polish junior tennis champion, and one of his uncles, Tomasz Maliszewski, was a professional tennis player. His granddad was also an international volleyball player.
