By default, the email callback time is set to less than 30 seconds, but you can change this in your mail account settings. However, you will not be able to return after the email recall period has expired.

On Desktop Browser:

1. On your browser, sign in to your Gmail account.

2. Then, click the Compose button present at the top left corner of the screen.

3. In the compose email window, enter the recipient’s name in the To, CC, or BCC fields, enter a subject line, and enter your message.

4. Click the Submit button.

5. As soon as you click the Submit button, you will see a small pop-up message at the bottom of the screen. It will have two options: View message and Undo.

6. Now you have to click the Undo button to unsend that email.

7. After that, the email will be revoked and will not be delivered to the recipient. You can now review your message, edit it, and resend it.

On the Gmail app (iPhone and Android):

1. Launch the Gmail app on your Android device or iPhone.

2. Tap the compose email icon present in the bottom right corner of the screen.

3. Then, enter the recipient’s name in the TO, CC or BCC fields, enter the subject line, and enter the message body.

4. Then, tap the Send icon in the upper right corner of the screen.

5. Immediately after sending the message, you will see a small pop-up at the bottom of the window.

6. Now, to undo the email you just sent, tap on the Undo option in that pop-up.

7. And, with just that, your email will be revoked. You can now review your message, edit it, and then send it again.

However, if you can’t hit the Undo option before that pop-up disappears from the screen, there’s no way to undo the sent email.

Change email recall time in Gmail

You wrote a message, attached any attachment you wanted and included all the recipients… And you just realized you sent it to the wrong person and included the incorrect documents. What can you do now? Well, luckily, you already know from the above steps how to revoke Gmail emails. But you missed the Undo pop-up because it stayed on screen for too long!

But (here yes but different) you can increase the recall time of an email up to 30 seconds. Here are the steps you can use to change email recall time in Gmail:

1. On your computer, open a browser and log in to your Gmail account.

2. Then, click on the Settings icon present in the top right corner of the screen.

3. Next, select the option See all settings.

4. Now, in the General tab, go to the Undo Send section.

5. There, click the drop-down menu and choose when you want to unsend the email. You can choose between 5, 10, 20 or 30 seconds.

6. Finally, to apply the changes, click the Save Changes button at the bottom of the screen.

So now, you have 30 seconds to call back your email in Gmail. If you still miss that pop-up, there’s no way you can recall that email.

Furthermore, you cannot change the callback time in your Gmail app, so you have to log in to your Gmail account on a desktop browser and do this.

However, if you changed the Undo time by following the steps above, the same settings will be applied to your Gmail account on all devices where you’re signed in.

• First of all, what you can do is type your email into a word processor or Google Docs to prevent unfinished draft emails from being sent. There’s no way you can mistransmit anything without double-checking it in the document first.

• If you’re writing directly in the compose email window, don’t add recipients directly. Add them when you’re done writing the email. That way, you can’t send the wrong email or send it to the wrong recipient.

• Get in the habit of re-reading ALL emails before sending them out. This can take some time, but it alleviates the stress of giving incorrect information to incorrect people.

• Allow yourself plenty of time. Never rush to reply to a message. That way, you can prevent yourself from misunderstanding anything or not mentioning something important.
