Glendale Heights police officer Michael Huff and his wife Jacquelyn Fonte killed in murder-suicide

Homer Glen, IL – A tragic incident unfolded in Homer Glen as Glendale Heights police sergeant, Michael Huff, and his wife, Jacquelyn Fonte, were found dead in what the authorities have labeled as a murder-suicide.

The Will County Coroner’s Office officially identified the couple, aged 47 and 38 respectively, following the incident on Sunday at their residence in the 13000 block of South Shannon Drive.

According to the Will County Sheriff’s Office, Michael Huff fatally shot his wife multiple times before taking his own life. Although two of their children were present in the home during the incident, the 18-year-old made the distress call to 911 upon hearing the altercation.

Glendale Heights Police Department mourned the loss of Michael, a dedicated police sergeant of over 20 years, and Jackie, a former employee of the village. Expressing heartfelt condolences, the department acknowledged the significant void left by their tragic passing.

Jacquelyn had initiated divorce proceedings on October 20, citing irreconcilable differences. The couple had been married since 2015 and had one child together. Their divorce case was scheduled for a court hearing in January.

Authorities disclosed previous law enforcement visits to the Huff residence, including a welfare check in May 2020 and incidents in October 2023, involving a battery complaint and a subsequent call for item removal.

Law enforcement found the couple deceased in the kitchen upon responding to a report of shots fired. A small-caliber handgun was discovered near their bodies.

The investigation into this heartbreaking incident remains ongoing. The Will County Sheriff’s Office assured the community that this was an isolated event and confirmed plans for an autopsy.
