Gerrard Flores died on January 7 at noon while competing in a wrestling event at Arvada West High School. Flores had a medical issue during the game, and firefighters and police officers attended. According to police Public Information Officer Dave Snelling, efforts to revive Flores were futile. Flores was taken to an ambulance but died on the way and was pronounced dead at the spot.

“One of the referees at the wrestling tournament became ill,” Snelling said. Arvada fire and police attended, and he was treated medically. He died despite all resuscitation efforts.”

Following Flores’ death, the wrestling event was canceled. Flores was a popular figure in the Colorado wrestling scene. He was a former collegiate wrestler who earned a business administration degree from Northeastern Jr. College in 1988. Gerrard Flores, a Colorado native, has two boys, Trea and Tristin Flores. His two boys have not issued a comment, but have posted nostalgic photos with their father. Tera Flores, a singer, tweeted a childhood picture of him sitting on his father’s lap. He added a broken heart emoji to the post’s description. Tristin Gerrard, Gerrard’s youngest son, posted a photo of himself with his father at Fenway Park.

There are videos showing Gerrard officiating at children’s baseball games. Malessa Hernandez, his sister, posted a video of her brother umpiring numerous baseball games. Malessa reshared the video on her Facebook profile after a parent of one of the children posted it on her account. Mindy L. Albert, the person who uploaded the video, stated, “You touched so many of these young kids’ lives through sports and gave many kids opportunities to shine.”
