Former staff member of Camp WOW Hayden Stanley ‘Meatball’ passes away

Gilmer, Texas is grieving the tragic loss of Hayden Stanley, affectionately known as “Meatball,” a beloved former staff member of Camp WOW. Born and raised in Gilmer, Hayden tragically passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2023, leaving the community and Camp WOW family in deep sorrow.

Hayden’s connection to Camp WOW was profound, starting as a camper and later becoming a wrangler with AFCC Cowboy Camps. Over the past three summers, he dedicated his time and passion to the WOW staff, most recently taking on the role of Green Team Leader on the Rockwall. His commitment to the camp was evident, and his loss is felt as that of a cherished family member.

SWCC Youth released a statement, expressing the deep impact Hayden had on those who knew him. The statement reads, “If you knew him, you loved him. With great sadness, Hayden Stanley ‘Meatball’ was tragically taken to his eternal home. Although he is more alive now than he ever was here, we miss him and pray for peace for his family. If you had Meatball as your Wrangler at CowCamp or knew him in some other way and need to talk, I’m available. Meatball, until we see you again, it was a pleasure to serve the Kingdom with you.”

Hayden Stanley, a Harmony High School graduate, was an outstanding young man known for his strong faith and dedication to serving the Lord. His infectious laughter brought joy to others, and his love for Camp WOW was palpable.
