Logan County, Ohio – In a tragic incident that unfolded on Monday around 6 a.m., a fatal two-vehicle collision occurred in Richland Township, southeast of Lima, along the 9000 block of State Route 117. The collision resulted in the loss of 18-year-old Dietrich Lyles’ life and left another individual hospitalized.
The Logan County Sheriff’s Office deputies swiftly responded to the scene to manage the aftermath of the heartbreaking collision. The icy conditions on a bridge proved fatal as Lyles, a resident of Lima, lost control of his 2010 Mercury Milan while driving southbound on SR 117.
Despite a valiant effort to regain control after the initial skid, disaster struck when the Mercury skidded into the central lane, colliding with a 2021 GMC Sierra driven by a 40-year-old resident of Bellefontaine. The impact led to Dietrich Lyles’ tragic demise, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the official crash report. The driver of the GMC Sierra, fortunate to sustain only minor injuries, was promptly transported to Lima Memorial Hospital.
Both vehicles involved in the collision suffered major damages, rendering them unusable and necessitating towing. The local community is grappling with the aftermath of this devastating accident, as investigators diligently work to piece together the events leading up to the fatal collision.
