The Richelieu-Saint-Laurent Intermunicipal Police Board, in conjunction with the coroner, has initiated an investigation into this tragic incident involving a 25-year-old woman on the Richelieu River that took place on Saturday. The accident occurred not far from Saint-Basile-Le Grand.
Sergeant Jean-Luc Tremblay reported that the victim fell from a boat while in the company of a group of boaters shortly after 6 p.m.
Under circumstances yet unknown, the boat collided with the young woman who had fallen into the water.
She was swiftly transported by ambulance to the hospital where, tragically, she was pronounced deceased.
The investigation is crucial to determine the circumstances that led to the woman’s fall from the boat.
While investigators are keeping an open mind, Sergeant Tremblay mentioned that factors such as alcohol and speed might not be involved in the incident. The police officer noted that she hailed from Montérégie.
