“First Lady of Song,” Newport News resident and jazz icon Ella Fitzgerald, was the subject of the musical event.

The culmination of the festival is the performance of famous jazz singer Samara. Fitzgerald was one of the most famous jazz vocalists of all time and died in 1996. During her lifetime, she sold over 40 million albums and received 13 Grammy Awards.
