Cynthiana, KY – James Dustin Rose, known to many as Dustin, passed away at the age of 52 on September 20, 2023, at his residence in Cynthiana, Kentucky. He was born on April 29, 1971, in Boyd County, Kentucky, and was the beloved son of Janet Warnock Rose and the late James Davis Rose of Flatwoods, Kentucky.
Dustin is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Jama Osborne Rose, and his son, Jameson Davis Rose, who was not only his son but also his forever fishing buddy, along with Jameson’s longtime girlfriend, Abbi Logan. He is also survived by his only brother, David Brett Rose, sister-in-law Andrea Rose, and nephews Brandon and Bradley, as well as a host of family and friends.
A graduate of Raceland High School and Morehead State University, Dustin lived a life of accomplishments, compassion, and service to the Lord. For 24 years, he served as the owner and agency manager of Harrison County Farm Bureau, previously being an agent for Greenup County Farm Bureau. Dustin’s commitment to the community was extensive, evidenced by his involvement in various roles such as a member of the Harrison County Education Committee, President of Cynthiana Lyons Club, and a member of the Harrison County Youth Football Board. He passionately supported numerous youth sports and activities. Dustin was also a former minister at Olive Hill Church of Christ for a decade before relocating to Cynthiana, Kentucky, where he played a pivotal role in establishing the Licking Valley Church of Christ in 2008. He co-ministered, served as an elder, and dedicated himself to building the church and guiding its members.
In addition to his life achievements, Dustin was an avid fisherman, finding solace and joy on the lakes of Kentucky. He spent countless hours with his cherished son, JD, nurturing their shared love for fishing. Dustin also mentored many adopted sons, sharing his passion for being on the water and the art of fishing. He was a pillar of the community, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him. His presence will be sorely missed.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at the Licking Valley Church of Christ, with Dr. Stephen Besson, Joe Cochran, and Allen Johnson officiating.
Visitation will take place on Friday, September 22, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Saturday, September 23, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Licking Valley Church of Christ, 449 US HWY 62 West, Cynthiana, Kentucky 41031.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Licking Valley Church of Christ, P O BOX 7222, Cynthiana, Kentucky 41031, honoring Dustin’s memory and the church he passionately contributed to.
