Chesnee, South Carolina – The chiropractic community mourns the loss of Dr. Judy Ehlich, a revered figure who dedicated over 50 years to the profession. The retired chiropractor passed away on Monday, November 27, 2023, at the age of 81, surrounded by her loving family.
The sad news was shared through a heartfelt post that stated, “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Judy Ehlich on November 27, Dr. Chris’ dear mother. She was a leader and pioneer in her beloved profession of Chiropractic and loved by everyone who knew her.” The cause of her death has not been disclosed.
Born on September 20, 1942, in Dysart, Pennsylvania, Dr. Judy’s journey in chiropractic care began at the Columbia College of Chiropractic in New York. Together with her husband, Dr. Bruce Ehlich, she later moved to Spartanburg, establishing the Ehlich Chiropractic Clinic in Chesnee. Her commitment to the community was unwavering.
Throughout her illustrious career, Dr. Judy displayed a keen dedication to staying informed on the latest developments in chiropractic care through continuous postgraduate studies. She actively participated in various chiropractic associations, including the South Carolina Chiropractic Association, the South Carolina Palmetto Chiropractic Association, and the International Chiropractic Association.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Dr. Kim Ehlich McDowell (Dr. Craig) and Kendra Ehlich Elliott (Jimmy); sons, Dr. Bruce Christopher Ehlich (Dr. Beth) and Dr. d’Artagnon “Tan” Ehlich (Mandy); daughter-in-law, Gina Ehlich; sister, Ariadyne Herbert (David); brother, Jimmy Hertzog (Joanne); grandchildren, Carson McDowell and Josh McDowell (Amy), Caroline Ehlich, Hayden Ehlich, and William Ehlich, Christian Woody (Kenneth), Owen Ehlich and Griffin Ehlich, and Colbi Elliott and Carli Elliott; and great-grandchildren, Evan McDowell, Charlotte Claire McDowell, and Leah McDowell, and Theo Woody and Hampton Woody.
In addition to her parents, Dr. Judy was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Bruce Carl Ehlich; son, Dr. Darryl Ehlich; brother, Pat Hertzog; and granddaughters, Lindsay McDowell, and Olivia Ehlich.
Friends and well-wishers are invited to pay their respects at Eggers Funeral Home of Chesnee on Friday, December 1, 2023, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass to celebrate Dr. Judy Ehlich’s life will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 12:00 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gaffney, South Carolina, with Father James Touzeau officiating. The burial will follow at Springhill Memorial Gardens in Chesnee. The chiropractic community and her numerous patients join in mourning the loss of a true pioneer in the field.
