Donald Passmore, 61-year-old man passes away in police involved shooting in Wallingford, CT

Wallingford, Connecticut – A deeply troubling incident occurred in Wallingford on Monday morning, resulting in the tragic death of Donald Passmore, a 61-year-old local man. According to the state Office of the Inspector General, Passmore was shot and killed by Wallingford police officers Gordon McCaskill and Robert Bellucci inside a residence on North Airline Road. The shocking incident has raised questions and concerns within the community.

The events unfolded at 2:35 a.m. on Monday when Wallingford police responded to a call at a residence on the 100 block of North Airline Road. They were informed that a man, later identified as Passmore, had allegedly shot himself in the face. Upon arrival, a female witness claimed that Passmore had shot himself in their bedroom.

Body camera footage released by the Inspector General’s office shed light on the tragic encounter. Passmore, lying on a bed, engaged in a dialogue with the officers for nearly nine minutes. The footage revealed officers repeatedly instructing Passmore not to touch the rifle and urging him to raise his hands in the air.

At 2:54 a.m., officers shouted commands, “Don’t touch the gun!” and “Put your right hand up!” The situation escalated, resulting in the firing of approximately ten rounds at Passmore. The officers discovered a .22 caliber revolver on the bed after the incident. The Wallingford Police Department staff provided medical aid until Emergency Medical Services could take over.

Despite the efforts made, Passmore succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at MidState Medical Center in Meriden at 3:37 a.m.

The incident has raised concerns about the use of force and the circumstances leading to the tragic outcome. Body camera footage revealed Passmore instructing officers to put away their spotlights, which were aimed at the ground. The officers, after warning Passmore not to touch his gun, opened fire, leaving the community in shock and mourning.
