Louisville, Kentucky – The Louisville community is mourning the loss of a dedicated and compassionate individual, Don Scheer, a paramedic with Louisville Metro Emergency Medical Services, who passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 18, 2023. Don’s passing has left his family, friends, and colleagues devastated.
Don’s educational journey began at both Ballard High School and Moore High School. He furthered his studies at Kentucky University, laying the foundation for a remarkable career dedicated to serving others. He embarked on his professional path as a firefighter at Mount Washington Fire, where he served ardently for an admirable seven-year period from 2003 to 2010. His commitment to public service then led him to Air Evac Lifeteam, where he continued to make a difference for five years from 2010 to 2015.
In his role as a paramedic at Louisville KY Metro Emergency Medical Services, Don showcased unwavering dedication and passion, ensuring the well-being of the people of Louisville. His legacy of selflessness extended beyond his professional commitments; in his final act of compassion, he chose to donate his organs, offering others the chance to continue their lives.
Lauren Scheer paid tribute and wrote,
“As many of you know my dad Don Scheer passed this morning at 9:40. we are extremely devastated as this was all so sudden. however we are extremely grateful for the outpour of love and support from the ems/fire family and all others who knew and loved him. we are holding each other extra close right now and doing our best to lift each other up. we are trying to make funeral arrangements that will be released as soon as we can. i love you dad”
Don’s remarkable character and compassion were evident to everyone who knew him. He was not only a dedicated paramedic but also a compassionate man who prioritized his family above all else. His love for his family was boundless, and he was willing to go to any lengths for their well-being.
