In connection with the shooting death of Dexter Perkins, Michael Freund, a 49-year-old from Aurora, stands accused of first-degree murder. The fatal altercation occurred on a Friday morning outside Rosie O’Reilly’s bar in unincorporated Wheaton.

Freund, purportedly attempting to halt the altercation, discharged warning rounds before ultimately shooting Perkins multiple times, resulting in his tragic death.
Details from court filings indicate that Freund shot Perkins nine times, concealing the weapon in his truck after the incident. Recorded audio from a Ring doorbell and video footage from the bar captured the tragic sequence of events.
Freund is scheduled for an arraignment on January 18, marking the next legal phase in this distressing case.
