Indianapolis, IN – The Indianapolis community is mourning the loss of Devin Williams, a former student-athlete at the University of Southern Indiana, who tragically lost his life in a shooting incident on October 23, 2023. Devin’s untimely death has cast a shadow of sorrow over his family, friends, and the wider community, as they remember him as a loving father and a dedicated individual.
Born on June 6, 1991, to Anitra and Dwayne Williams, Devin was the only child of this hardworking couple. Anitra, a dedicated nurse, and Dwayne, a retired police officer with 25 years of service in the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, instilled in Devin the values of perseverance, education, and sportsmanship. From a young age, Devin showed exceptional talent in basketball and football, passions his parents wholeheartedly supported.
Devin graduated from Pike High School in 2009, making his parents immensely proud. He continued his education at the University of Southern Indiana, where he played as a wide receiver for the Eagles football team from 2009 to 2013. In 2014, he earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration and had plans to pursue a master’s degree in sports management, showcasing his dedication to both academics and athletics.
In addition to his achievements, Devin embraced fatherhood with immense love and responsibility. His daughter, Kobe Williams, was born in 2017 to his former partner, Kelsey Pumel, popularly known as Perfectly Kelsey on TikTok. Despite their separation, Devin and Kelsey maintained a harmonious co-parenting relationship, sharing custody of Kobe. As grandparents, Anitra and Dwayne adored Kobe and cherished the time they spent with her.
The tragic incident has left the community in shock and mourning the loss of a promising young man whose life was cut short. Friends, family, and well-wishers gather in support, remembering Devin Williams for his kindness, talent, and the love he showered upon his daughter.
