Winfield Township, Pennsylvania – A fatal two-vehicle collision on Friday night has left the community of Winfield Township in mourning. The crash, involving a 65-year-old Cabot man identified as David A. Faulx and a 12-year-old boy, Zane Rupert from Saxonburg, occurred at the intersection of Winfield and Brose roads, resulting in the tragic loss of both individuals.
Reports from state police indicate that Faulx, driving a 1999 Jeep Wrangler, was traveling north on Winfield Road when the vehicle failed to negotiate a sharp right-hand curve. The Jeep crossed into the southbound lane and collided head-on with a semi-truck trailer. The impact caused the Jeep to overturn, landing upside down.
Despite the boy wearing a seat belt, both Faulx and Zane Rupert, his young passenger, were pronounced dead at the crash site. Faulx was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision. The truck driver, Hunter Cathcart, 29, from Clarion, suffered minor injuries but did not require hospitalization, as he was wearing a seat belt.
Zane Rupert, a valued member of the Saxonburg Spartans 12-and-under football team, was described by the team in a heartfelt social media post as a vital player, a son, a brother, and a dear friend. The post emphasized the profound impact he had on those around him and conveyed the team’s sincerest condolences to Zane’s family, teammates, and coaches.
In response to this tragic incident, a vigil was organized for Saturday night at New Life Christian Ministries on Knoch Road, offering a space for the community to come together and mourn the loss. Ministers were available for children and parents needing support or someone to talk to regarding the fatalities.
The Winfield Township collision, occurring after a local football game, has shaken the community, prompting a call for reflection on road safety and a collective outpouring of sympathy and support for the grieving families and affected community members.
