Darrin McMichael Obituary: Arlington police officer killed in hit-and-run crash

Arlington, TX – The community mourns the loss of Officer Darrin McMichael, an esteemed Arlington police officer tragically killed in a hit-and-run accident on Thursday morning in Dallas. Funeral services are set to take place early next week to honor his memory and pay respects.

Visitation to remember Officer McMichael is scheduled for Tuesday at Wade Funeral Home in Arlington, starting at 6 p.m. and concluding at 8 p.m. The funeral service is planned for Wednesday at Crossroads Christian Church in Grand Prairie, commencing at 10 a.m., with the viewing starting at 9 a.m.

Officer Darrin McMichael, a 24-year veteran at the Arlington Police Department, served diligently as a dedicated member of the motorcycle unit for the last 13 years. He was born on December 20, 1971, in Arlington, TX.

The tragedy unfolded when Officer McMichael, on his way to work, fell off his motorcycle around 5:30 a.m. after colliding with the back of an SUV due to slowed traffic. Subsequently, another vehicle, believed to be a dark-colored Chrysler or Dodge sedan-type, ran over McMichael while he was on the ground.

Darrin Curtis McMichael’s wife, also an Arlington officer, was following him and witnessed the heartbreaking incident. The loss of Officer McMichael has left a significant void in the law enforcement community and beyond.

To pay respects and honor the life of Officer McMichael, the visitation will be held on September 26, 2023, at Wade Family Funeral Home in Arlington from 6-8 p.m. Another visitation is scheduled for September 27, 2023, at Crossroads Christian Church in Grand Prairie from 9-9:45 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. at the same location. Cremation will follow.
