I realized the importance of group calling as I was quarantined at home due to the coronavirus outbreak. I can’t see family, friends, don’t party; my business is stagnating and nothing. I feel stuck about how to spend my time, how to connect with friends, or how to speed up my business. I know I can make a phone call or social media is still alive. However, I am still looking for something more interesting and at the same time more useful.
I know I’m not the only one facing this, that’s why I’m sharing it with my readers.
I’ve always heard of conference calls and video conferencing programs available but never used them. But the current situation makes me have to install Skype. Yes, Skype is the only tool that I am using for all my group calls to my family, friends or partners.
In 2019, Skype doubled the group audio/video call limit from 25 to 50 participants.
Not very big!
So whether you’re calling your friends or colleagues, Skype will be your next BFF.
How do I set up a Skype conference call?
To get started with Skype Conference Calling, make sure you have the desktop or mobile app installed regardless of which you’re using. Skype Video calls are easy to make and completely free. High-definition video calls are no joke to Skype, and the experience feels like you’re talking to someone face-to-face. But to do that, you need to meet some technical requirements.
- Smart phone or fast computer
- A high definition camera
- High speed internet with enough bandwidth
Without them, Skype won’t help you.
Note- If any of the group call participants have slow internet connection; it can mess up the whole conference.
How to make a conference call on Skype?
To start a business conference call on Skype or just a regular call on your desktop or mobile device, the following steps will help:
- Open the ‘Calls’ tab and tap the ‘New Call’ icon.
- Search and select the people you want to call.
- Once selected, press the ‘Call’ button on the top right to place a call.
- You can even start a Skype Conference call using the free link provided by Skype. Share that link or copy it to your clipboard.
- When contacts join your conference call, their icon color turns green. You can even reconnect with someone who was mistakenly disconnected during the call.
People who don’t use Skype but any other phone service can join. They must dial the host’s Skype number, or the host can also invite them via SkypeOut, and the host will have to pay a fee because adding a non-Skype user is not free.
If you have to make frequent calls with the same group, you can create a group on Skype and add all of those contacts. The next time you have to make a conference call, call the team right away. That is not easy wind?
Alternatively, if you want to remove a participant, right click on the person and click ‘Delete’.
How to merge calls on Skype?
It’s another way to organize a conference call, where you can merge two different calls if you have a common topic of discussion going on. To do this, go to the ‘Recent’ tab and drag one of the calls onto the other to merge them.
What other options are available with Skype conferencing?
Group calling on Skype offers the following additional features:
- Save your group calls to view later or take notes because Skype saves them for 30 days.
