The Goldsboro community is profoundly saddened by the passing of Quinton Charles “Chuck” Potter, a beloved resident and community pillar, who peacefully left this world on October 27, 2023, at the age of ninety-three. Chuck’s life, defined by love, dedication, and service, leaves an enduring legacy within our town.
Chuck was born on April 16, 1930, in Troy, New York, to the late Quinton Fabin Potter and Hazel Gardner Potter. He moved to Goldsboro, where his family established “Potter’s Store,” a place that became a cornerstone of our community. Chuck’s commitment to his family’s business was a testament to his dedication to Goldsboro.
In 1952, Chuck became a Life Member of the Goldsboro Volunteer Fire Department, embodying the spirit of selflessness and community safety. He also served as a rural carrier in the Postal Service, ensuring the seamless flow of communication for our neighbors.
Beyond his professional life, Chuck found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He was an avid reader, a passionate camper, a skilled shuffleboard player, an enthusiastic angler, a dedicated bowler, and an ardent football fan. However, his true passion was dancing, a love that led him to his beloved wife, Betty. Their romance, which began on the dance floor of Ingleside Community Hall, blossomed into a lifelong partnership filled with love, laughter, and enduring companionship. They exchanged vows in April 1963, creating a home where family, friendship, and community thrived.
Chuck’s legacy lives on through his devoted wife, Betty, his daughter Patty Hollingsworth (John), his daughter-in-law Wendy Potter, his grandchildren, Chase Potter and Justin Felgenhour (Chrystyn), and his great-grandchildren, Lily, Khylee, and Haizel Rose. He is also survived by his brothers Walter Potter (Georgeann), John Potter, and Richard Potter.
A visitation to celebrate Chuck’s life will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2023, from 12 to 1 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1 PM, with immediate burial. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Goldsboro Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 35, Goldsboro, MD 21636, in Chuck’s honor. Let us remember Chuck with gratitude for the love he shared, the service he provided, and the strong sense of community he fostered. His spirit will forever illuminate the heart of Goldsboro.
