Chief Keef was born on August 15, 1995 in Chicago, Illinois, to Alfonzo Cozart and Lolita Carter. He was raised by his grandmother in the Washington Park neighborhood of Chicago. His mother died when he was 16 years old so there is no information about his father; he got his name from his deceased uncle.
He started rapping as a child, using his mother’s karaoke machine to record music. He attended Dulles Elementary, Banner Middle School, and Dyett High School before dropping out at age 15 and earning his diploma.
