Charlotte Frank of Libertyville, IL, 10-year-old girl, dies after a battle with cancer; $95k raised on GoFundMe

Libertyville, IL – In a devastating turn of events, 10-year-old Charlotte Frank from Libertyville, Illinois, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, September 26, 2023. The news of her unexpected departure has left countless hearts broken, including her grieving parents, Michelle and Eric, and her siblings, Violet and George. During this profoundly difficult time, the family seeks the support and love of the community as they grapple with this immense loss.

Charlotte displayed remarkable strength, resilience, and wit throughout her battle with cancer. The journey began when she experienced increased back pain after a fall during soccer in mid-October. Despite restless nights and numerous tests, the cause remained elusive until a visit to Lurie’s Children’s Hospital in Chicago on November 13, 2022. An MRI revealed a rare form of cancer affecting primarily young individuals, presenting a significant challenge for Charlotte and her family.

In response to the overwhelming medical and funeral expenses, a GoFundMe page was created by Melissa Stein on behalf of Michelle Frank. The initiative aims to support the family with financial assistance during this challenging period, covering medical bills, treatment costs, weekly commutes for appointments, and providing Charlotte with some moments of joy amidst the struggle.

The community, deeply moved by Charlotte’s story, has organized a remembrance event at Copeland where students, faculty, and parents will wear purple on Wednesday, September 27th, in her honor. It is a heartfelt gesture to commemorate the brave young girl who fought valiantly against the cruel grip of cancer.

Highland Family Association shared,

“Many of you have reached out to inquire what you can do to support the Frank family in the wake of Charlotte’s passing. Thank you for that ❤️ Mostly what is needed continues to be financial support. The lingering medical expenses and funeral expenses continue to be overwhelming. Below is the GoFundMe link for Charlotte Strong, organized by Melissa Stein.

A GoFundMe page is organized by Melissa Stein for fundraising with title “Charlotte Strong“. $95,320 have been raised till now. It is stated on the page:

“The Frank Family is in need of love and support as they start the long journey against cancer with their 10-year old daughter, Charlotte. Charlotte had a fall during soccer in mid-October which led to increasing back pain in the coming days and weeks, sleepless nights, x-rays and other routine testing.

After another sleepless night and no answers to what was causing Charlotte’s increased pain, her doctor recommended they head to Lurie’s Children’s Hospital in Chicago for more testing on November 13, 2022. After an MRI in the ER that night, a large mass was detected near Charlotte’s spine. More tests the following days confirmed that the mass was a rare type cancer that affects mostly children.

Charlotte has a quiet strength and a quick-witted sense of humor. Along with her gorgeous wide smile and determination in everything she does, we know that she will overcome this diagnosis with the help and love from family, friends and the Libertyville community.

We ask that you pray for healing and strength over Charlotte. Pray for her siblings, Violet and George. Pray for her parents, Michelle and Eric, that they may find the strength and courage during this difficult journey. Pray for the family and friends who love Charlotte so dearly. Pray for the team of doctors and nurses who are working tirelessly to get Charlotte through this.

So many of their supporters have asked how they can help. Therefore, we are setting up this fund that will go into an account for Charlotte to help cover her increasing care, medical bills, weekly commutes into the city for her appointments and maybe a little fun for Charlotte. 🙂 This will be a long road for the family, with 67 weeks of treatment.

Thank you for your incredible support and generosity. The family truly appreciates it! It means so much!
