Chandler Stalcup, Rocky Mountain College athlete, injured in Saturday shooting in Crystal River

In a devastating incident near Hilands Golf Club, an 18-year-old student-athlete, Chandler Stalcup, has been hospitalized after a deadly shooting in Billings. Stalcup, a resident of Crystal River, Florida, is currently fighting for his life.

The shooting occurred in the early hours of Saturday in the 900 block of Poly Drive, as announced by the Billings Police Department (BPD) on their social media platforms. This incident prompted the closure of a section of Poly Drive, between Glenwood Drive and Michigan Avenue, as BPD detectives launched their investigation.

In the aftermath of the shooting, the victim, Chandler Stalcup, sustained life-threatening injuries. However, BPD shift commanders were not immediately available for updates on Stalcup’s condition or to comment on any potential arrests made in connection with the incident.

Despite a decreasing trend in murder investigations for 2023 compared to the previous year, Billings has already witnessed six fatalities due to gun violence in the city and its surroundings this year. In 2022, the Boston Police Department wrapped up the year with 17 murder investigations, with the majority involving gun-related incidents.

Chandler Stalcup, a student-athlete at Rocky Mountain College, a prestigious private institution in Billings, Montana, was the victim of this tragic incident. The college offers undergraduate students a choice of 50 majors, spanning from the liberal arts to professional fields. The institution, which maintains affiliations with the Presbyterian Church in the United States of America, the United Methodist Church, and the United Church of Christ, had a total enrollment of 1,069 students for the fall semester of 2023.
