C & J Barbeque co-owner Chip Manning dies after battling with throat cancer: obituary

Bryan, TX – Chip Manning, beloved husband of Jo Manning and co-owner of C & J Barbeque, passed away on Monday, December 4, 2023. He battled throat cancer with courage and determination before peacefully passing away at home, surrounded by his family. Manning, known for his playful nature and warm welcome to new customers, especially those visiting for Aggie games, was 72 years old.

Born in Houston, Texas, on February 18, 1951, to Floyd and Evalyn Manning, Chip cherished moments with his sister, Barbara, who also succumbed to the same disease a few years ago. The thought of reuniting with his loved ones brought him solace, having lost his father at a young age.

Chip found joy in connecting with people, often engaging with visitors wearing opposing team shirts, inquiring about their experiences at C & J. His greatest delight lay in spending time with his children, Reagan and Justin, celebrating their achievements that contributed to the success of C & J Barbeque.
