Gilberts, Illinois – mourns the loss of Bryce Simon, a 16-year-old resident, following a devastating motor vehicle collision in Pingree Grove. The incident unfolded at the intersection of Route 72 and Reinking Road on Thursday evening, resulting in injuries to another individual.
The collision led to Simon being airlifted, alongside another victim, to regional hospitals for immediate medical attention. Tragically, Bryce Simon succumbed to injuries at Park Ridge’s Advocate Lutheran General Hospital.
A statement issued by the Pingree Grove and Countryside Fire Protection District recounted the events, detailing the emergency response to the collision. Firefighters faced challenging circumstances, requiring extensive efforts to extract individuals from the vehicles involved.
The Pingree Grove Police Department’s social media post confirmed that one passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while both vehicles’ occupants were airlifted for safety measures.
Preliminary findings from law enforcement indicate that a pickup truck, traveling at high speed eastbound on Route 72, lost control, veering into the westbound lanes and colliding head-on with a sedan. Authorities urge anyone with relevant information about the incident to reach out to the Pingree Grove Police Department.
The investigation benefits from the support of the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team and Pingree Grove police, joined by emergency response teams from various neighboring areas. LifeNet and React medical helicopters, alongside multiple agencies, were pivotal in the response efforts.
