News Bruno Mars
Silk Sonic won’t win the GRAMMY next year, unlike Anderson and Bruno Mars. Paak has decided not to nominate their record for any awards.
“As soon as people around the world reacted to ‘Leave the Door Open,’ Andy and I, as well as everyone who worked on this project, won. Everything else is just cherry on top, Mars told ET in a statement. We are grateful to the GRAMMYs for giving us two opportunities to perform on their stage and honoring us at the previous awards ceremony. It would be absurd if we wanted more.
The group performed “Leave the Door Open” at the 2021 Grammy Awards, and the song went on to take home Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Best R&B Performance the following year. The 2022 concert transmission is prefaced with Silk Sonic’s performance of “777”.
Mars’ letter reads: “Thank you to everyone who has supported and supported our initiative. Silk Sonic bows down to send our album this year gracefully, modestly, and most importantly, sensually. We really put our everything on this profile. We hope to join the party and celebrate a great year of music with everyone. I appreciate you letting Silk Sonic Thrive succeed.
“Silk Sonic has been a fun highlight of our last few shows and they deservedly a great night out at the 64th GRAMMY earlier this year,” it wrote. “We appreciate their decision not to submit this year, but look forward to celebrating a great year together in music.”
The Recording Academy announced earlier this year that the 65th annual GRAMMY Awards will change things up with five new award categories being announced “as part of the organization’s commitment to evolving with the music scene.” The music scene is always changing.”
The Recording Academy announced new awards, including Songwriter of the Year (Non-Classical), Best Alternative Music Performance, Best Americana Performance, Best Video Game Background Music and other interactive media, and Best Verbal Poetry Album, after considering “suggestions from the music creators and experts that make up its membership body.”
The Recording Academy is setting up a new special award for Best Song for Social Change alongside new categories. According to the press release, “This Special Merit Award will be decided by the Blue Ribbon Committee and approved by the Recording Academy Board of Trustees.” The requirement is that “submissions must contain lyrical content that addresses a timely social issue and promotes understanding, peace-building, and empathy.”
