Hudson, Texas — The Hudson Volunteer Fire Department and the entire Angelina County community are mourning the untimely passing of Officer Bryan Holley, a cherished member of the Hudson ISD Police Department. Officer Holley tragically passed away while on duty at Bonner Elementary School, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, service, and a profound impact on the lives of those he served.
Bryan was born July 30, 1966 in Lufkin, Texas to the late James A. and Stella Mae (Craig) Holley, and died Friday, August 18, 2023 in Lufkin.
Funeral services to honor Bryan Daniel Holley, 57, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, August 26, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Timber Creek Church with Kent Henson and Brother Richard Owens officiating. Following the services there will be a procession to Bonner Elementary School for a 21 Gun Salute.
Officer Holley’s devotion to his duty extended beyond the call of duty. He went above and beyond, frequently assisting the Hudson Volunteer Fire Department on accidents and emergencies in the community. His commitment to safeguarding the well-being of children every day made him a beloved and respected member of the community. His infectious smile and honorable service set an example for all, embodying the spirit of a dedicated law enforcement officer.
With 31 years in law enforcement, Officer Holley’s journey was marked by service, compassion, and a deep connection to the community he served. His tenure at the Angelina County Sheriff’s Office spanned 17 years, during which he worked patrol, served as a K-9 officer in narcotics, and rose to become a Lieutenant and commander of a patrol shift. His impact was felt not only within law enforcement circles but also among students, parents, and staff in the Hudson Independent School District.

Officer Holley’s career led him to his final law enforcement home at Hudson’s Bonner Elementary, where he spent the last decade watching over and caring for the children and families of Hudson. Known for his creative ways to bring smiles and laughter to everyone’s day, he was even famously spotted greeting students as the “Elf on the Shelf” perched atop a school awning.

The outpouring of support and tributes from fellow law enforcement agencies, elected officials, and the community underscores the profound impact Officer Holley had on the lives he touched. Angelina County Sheriff Tom Selman shared his deep sorrow at Officer Holley’s passing, highlighting his dedication, sense of humor, and commitment to his family. Judge Keith N. Wright and Mayor Mark Hicks both paid tribute to Officer Holley by ordering flags to be flown at half-mast and adopting proclamations in his honor.
The Hudson ISD community has come together to remember Officer Holley by wearing blue on August 21, honoring his memory and the selfless service he provided. As the community mourns his loss, they also celebrate his legacy and the example he set for a life dedicated to protecting and serving others. Officer Bryan Holley’s impact will forever be cherished, and his memory will continue to inspire acts of kindness, dedication, and service within the community he loved.
