News Audie Murphy
Award-winning author The creative team behind the upcoming series on the life of World War II hero Audie Murphy now includes David S. Ward.
Ward stated: “Audie fought two wars, heroically against the Germans in World War II and desperately fighting post-traumatic stress disorder that threatened to destroy her family, film career and life. his status as the most admired man in America. at that time. He’s like a ripped Norman Rockwell painting.
Ward joined the project from Arthur E. Friedman and Steven Jay Rubin. He is best known for his work on The Sting, Sleepless in Seattle, and Major League films.
For The Sting, Ward received the 1974 Academy Award for Best Writing, Story, and Screenplay based on factual or previously unpublished or produced material. Twenty years later, he was nominated for an Academy Award for Sleepless in Seattle alongside Nora Ephron and Jeff Arch for Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen. Cannery Row, King Ralph and Steelyard Blues are some of his other works.
A limited series about the life of actor, Congressional Medal of Honor recipient and World War II hero Audie Murphy is being created by Arthur E. Friedman and Steven Jay Rubin.
The 1959 memoir Don Graham No Name on the Bullet of Murphy was acquired by Friedman (Price of Glory, Beyond the Sea) and Rubin (Bleacher Bums, Silent Night). The project’s producers and Graham’s widow Betsy Berry have teamed up and an adapter is currently being sought.
The show will depict Murphy’s entire life story, from his time serving in the Army during World War II to his rise to stardom in Hollywood in the 1940s and 1950s.
According to the creators, the TV series will give 1955’s To Hell and Back, an adaptation of Murphy’s autobiography, more quality. In addition to documenting his time in the military and the 44 films he made in Hollywood, it will also look at his struggles with PTSD. At the age of 45, Murphy died in a plane crash.
With Audie portraying himself in To Hell and Back, “they only told part of his story,” according to Friedman. “What turned a baby-faced, 125-pound farm boy from East Texas at age 16 into a killing machine in battle and what happened when he switched from warrior to brother cinematic heroes and more have created a compelling film.
