Gabriel began his youth hockey career with Hammarby IF. After a fantastic season with Hammarby IF in the J20 SuperElit, he joined Djurgrdens IF for the 2007-08 season. He was a three-year member of the club. Gabriel was selected by the Plymouth Whalers of the Ontario Hockey League in the first round, third overall, in the 2009 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft. In the 2011–12 season, he made his NHL debut. Colorado Avalanche selected Landeskog as second overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. On October 12, 2011, he scored his first NHL goal against the Columbus Blue Jackets. He then spent a season with Djurgrdens IF before rejoining the Colorado Avalanche for the 2012-13 season.
Landeskog was named captain by Colorado Avalanche on September 4, 2012. He was the youngest captain in NHL history at the time. On April 17, 2014, he scored his first goal in the NHL playoffs against the Minnesota Wild. Since then, he has been a striker and captain of the team. He has played for Sweden in several tournaments.
