Less information about Asma Khalid
NPR White House correspondent Asma Khalid. Additionally, she co-hosts the “NPR Politics Podcast.” Khalid reported on the 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2020 elections, exhibiting a bit of a campaign trail addiction.
She joined NPR’s Washington team in 2016 to focus on the relationship between politics and demographics. She reported on Joe Biden’s presidential run after covering the crowded Democratic primary field during the 2020 presidential campaign.
Khalid worked as a reporter for Boston’s NPR station, WBUR before joining the political team at NPR. There, she was almost immediately drawn into one of the most difficult stories of her career: the bombing of the Boston Marathon.
She only recently started working for the network, but she immediately started covering the explosions, their victims and their impact on the city. She also covered the trial of James “Whitey” Bulger and Boston’s unsuccessful attempt for the Olympics.
She later served as the head of the station’s new technology and business team, the group in charge of future work. Khalid’s reporting took her to Pakistan, the UK, and China, along with many other states in the US.
She started her journalism career in her hometown of Indiana, but as a graduate student she interned at “BBC Newshour” in London and fell in love with radio. She has made guest appearances on several television shows, including “This Week” on ABC, “Inside Politics” on CNN, and “Washington Week” on PBS.
The Missouri Medal of Honor for Outstanding Service in Journalism, the Gracie Award, and the Association of Professional Journalists awards have all recognized her writing.
Khalid is a graduate of Indiana University and a native of Crown Point, Indiana. In addition, she completed coursework at Middlebury University’s Arabic programs, the American University of Beirut, the London School of Economics, and the University of Cambridge.
