Asheville shooting threat reports debunked, no active shooter found

Multiple law enforcement agencies swiftly responded to reports of a shooting at the Buncombe County Social Work Services office on Coxe Ave, Asheville, NC. The incident prompted an extensive emergency response, with over four dozen police officers, fire department personnel, and EMS units mobilized to the scene.

Authorities placed the Buncombe County Social Work Services office under a hard lockdown following reports of an active shooter. Downtown Asheville along Coxe Avenue witnessed a significant presence of emergency vehicles, with police cars, fire trucks, and ambulances converging near the Health and Human Services building. County employees were instructed to evacuate, and residents were urged to vacate the area as law enforcement conducted investigations.

“𝐀𝐏𝐃 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞-𝐁𝐲 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟 𝐎𝐜𝐜𝐮𝐩𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐇𝐨𝐦𝐞, 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐣𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐝Asheville, NC (December 21, 2023): The Asheville Police Department is investigating a shooting that took place Wednesday night, leaving one man with non-life-threatening injuries.Asheville Police Department officers responded to Myrtle Street around 9:14 p.m. on December 20 to investigate a report of a gunshot wound in which a man was shot. Officers found a man suffering from gunshot wounds to the arms. Responding officers applied a tourniquet to the victim until the arrival of EMS. The victim was transported to Mission Hospital for treatment and released.Occupants inside the residence told police while having a small gathering, they heard gunshots shortly after and realized bullets were coming into the residence, two of which struck one of those inside. While canvassing the residence, officers located 55 shell casings and damage from bullets, along with four vehicles parked outside of the residence.Detectives are following up and asking anyone with information about the case to send an anonymous tip by texting TIP2APD to 847411. However, after thorough investigations by the Asheville Fire Department and other officials, it was concluded that there was no evidence of an active shooter or a shooting incident at the location. The situation has been resolved, and residents are no longer advised to avoid downtown.
