A devastating multi-vehicle accident on the 405 Freeway in the San Fernando Valley on Monday morning resulted in the untimely passing of 28-year-old Anthony Gomez. The incident, which occurred around 4:40 a.m., initially prompted several concerned drivers to contact the California Highway Patrol, reporting what appeared to be a vehicle heading in the wrong direction. Subsequent calls detailed a collision at the Sherman Way exit in Van Nuys involving multiple vehicles.
Following an investigation, the California Highway Patrol determined that there was no collision with a wrong-way vehicle as initially suspected. Instead, it was revealed that Anthony Gomez, the driver of a silver Acura, had lost control of his vehicle on the northbound side of the freeway, leading to a spin-out and a collision with the center divider. The vehicle ultimately came to rest facing the wrong way, leading to collisions with a truck and a red sedan.
Tragically, authorities confirmed Gomez’s passing at the scene of the accident. While the other drivers involved sustained minor injuries, the crash led to significant traffic disruptions, prompting the California Highway Patrol to issue a SigAlert and limit traffic to a single lane for several hours. Investigations into the incident are ongoing, with authorities continuing to gather information and assess the details surrounding the accident.
