Allison Jaslow, a truly popular figure in the veterans movement, has been appointed the third Executive Director of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), making her the first woman hold that position. Additionally, she will be the first openly gay veteran to hold the leadership position of a leading veterans organization in the country.
Jaslow, a veteran of the Iraq War, recently joined the IAVA Board of Directors after serving as the organization’s CEO while Paul Rieckhoff was the CEO. He added more than ten years of senior capacity to the organization. Jaslow will resume as CEO March 15, but she’ll be on Capitol Hill this week as IAVA members head to the nation’s capital to campaign for the next generation of veterans. 9/11.
After a thorough nationwide search, the Board of Directors unanimously selected Jaslow as CEO. In addition to his duties as a former IAVA leader, Jaslow has held successful positions as congressional campaign manager, chief of staff to a member of Congress, and is a political and media strategist. She is a former Army officer who was awarded a Bronze Star for her wartime achievements. She is also a charter member of the Veterans Affairs Council of the National Park Service Association and a tenured member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Most recently, she worked as an adjunct professor of procedure at the Sanford School of Public Policy in the Duke Department.
