A deeply saddening incident unfolded at the renowned Alex Fraser Bridge, where a male individual tragically lost his life in an apparent suicide. Reports indicate that the Delta Police Department and Delta Police Traffic Unit swiftly responded to distress calls regarding a man threatening to jump off the bridge.
Despite extensive efforts by law enforcement officers to dissuade the individual from taking the drastic step, the unidentified male proceeded to jump from the Alex Fraser Bridge, landing on HWY 17. Regrettably, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Various search units swiftly attended the location and discovered the remains of the deceased. Witnesses, including motorists on the highway during the incident, shared the emotional turmoil of witnessing the aftermath of the distressing event.
As a result of the tragic occurrence, a significant portion of the northbound lane was closed to facilitate the response by law enforcement agencies. The closure was implemented due to a police incident, leading to single lane alternating traffic in both directions near the Alex Fraser Bridge. Videos circulating online captured the heartbreaking moment as the unidentified man leaped off the bridge, landing on the highway below, prompting immediate response from law enforcement.
Consequently, the on-ramp to Westbound BCHwy17 at Tannery Road was closed, causing delays in the 340 22nd St Station/Scottsdale area. Investigations into the incident are currently underway at the Alex Fraser Bridge, located in the suburban community of Metro Vancouver.
