Alberta Basaglia is the daughter of Franco Basaglia. Franco Basaglia was an Italian psychiatrist who was instrumental in the Italian mental reform movement that led to the adoption of the Basaglia Law in 1978. In Italy, the law abolished mental hospitals and replaced them with community-based mental health services.

Even after being told that she would go blind, they didn’t believe it and let her go skiing. Alberta just closed her eyes and followed suit when her mother asked how she was skiing. Her mother was overjoyed, but she never stopped doing what she wanted. Alberta grew up believing that there are ways to live and nothing is impossible.
