A devastating multi-vehicle accident on Route 22 in Bethlehem Township on October 5 has claimed the lives of three individuals, including Alan W. Heater, 76, from Bushkill Township. The tragedy has left the community in mourning and raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Alan W. Heater was driving a 2002 black Chevrolet Silverado when he was struck by a red 2018 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Barry W. Fulton, 58, of Summit Hill, Carbon County. Fulton was traveling in the wrong direction, heading westbound on the eastbound lanes of Route 22.
The impact also involved a 1997 Honda Civic driven by John Michael Woodburn, 22, of Bethlehem, resulting in a fatal collision. Woodburn tragically lost his life at the scene due to multiple blunt force injuries sustained during the accident.
Alan W. Heater was transported to St. Luke’s Anderson campus in Bethlehem Township and succumbed to his injuries on Saturday, October 14. The cause of his death was ruled accidental, resulting from the injuries sustained in the accident.
Barry W. Fulton, the driver of the red Chevrolet Silverado, also suffered injuries in the crash. Despite medical intervention, Fulton passed away on Sunday, October 16, at St. Luke’s University Hospital in Fountain Hill. His cause of death was cited as multiple blunt force injuries due to the collision, and it was ruled an accident by the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office.
The circumstances that led to Fulton driving in the wrong direction on Route 22 remain under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police. The incident has prompted authorities to urge anyone with information about Fulton’s movements before the crash to come forward.
