David Bowles Obituary: Senior citizen of Washington passes away at 78

Selah, Washington – David Blaine Bowles, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on October 1, 2023, at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He fought a valiant 2-year battle with cancer, demonstrating immense strength and resilience throughout his life.

Born on December 5, 1944, in Yakima, Washington, David was the son of Ralph Bowles and Edna Blaine Bowles. He completed his high school education at Toppenish High School in 1963, followed by studies in Agronomy and Chemistry at Washington State University. David further served his country as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army, dedicating four years of his life, including a tour in Vietnam in 1968-69.

Following his military service, David joined the family business, R.H. Bowles, Co., based in Toppenish, where he worked for many years. He later pursued a successful career as a self-employed distributor of fuel additives. In 1967, he married his childhood sweetheart, Shirley Ann Neufeld, and together they had two children, Julie and Brian. David cherished his family and considered them his greatest accomplishment in life.

An outdoors enthusiast, David found joy in fishing, snow skiing, water skiing, and annual rafting trips down rivers with dear friends. Throughout retirement, he and Shirley explored the beauty of the western United States, towing their trailer and kayaks to visit numerous state and national parks. David was an avid reader, especially enjoying history and true crime books. He took immense pride in his meticulously cared-for yard, showcasing his love for gardening. However, above all, he treasured spending time with loved ones, including his granddaughter, Abigail, born in 2019.

David’s warmth, kindness, and unique sense of humor made him a remarkable individual. He was a man of great heart and compassion, leaving a lasting impact on everyone he encountered. David’s passing leaves a void that can never be filled, and he will be dearly missed by his wife, children, granddaughter, daughter-in-law Heather, and faithful companion, Moose.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Edna Bowles, his brother Bob Bowles, and his sister Pamela Bowles Skone.

Funeral services to celebrate David’s life will be held on Friday, October 20 at 11:00 AM at Langevin El Pariso Funeral Home. The family expresses their gratitude to all who have extended their love and support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
