1 motorcyclist dead in Lorain County shooting after a white vehicle randomly fires

Panic gripped Lorain County today, on the 24th of October 2023, as reports flooded in regarding an active shooter incident. According to various sources, including social media updates and local scanner reports, a white Honda Civic was seen indiscriminately firing at motorcycle riders across several cities, including Elyria, Lorain, Amherst, Vermilion, and Baumhart Road.

As the situation unfolded, it was revealed that the chaos had led to the closure of Route 2 East at Baumhart, causing significant disruptions to the area’s traffic flow. Both EMH and the UH emergency room in Elyria were swiftly placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure.

While initial reports suggested that as many as eight riders had been shot, these details remain unconfirmed. However, the authorities managed to swiftly apprehend the suspect, who is currently in custody after being arrested by the Lorain County Sheriff’s department.

County sheriff’s deputies were first made aware of the situation just after 6:15 p.m., when they responded to an alleged shooting near Lake Avenue and Emerson Court in Elyria Township. The victim in that incident later died at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center.

UH also confirms its Elyria facility was briefly placed on lockdown after a group of bikers showed up at the hospital. That order was later lifted by 8 p.m.
