He pondered retiring from football twice
Youssouf pondered retiring from football not once, but twice. In an interview, he explained what prompted him to contemplate resigning. The first time, he felt he was in team B and hadn’t finished his year with the national U17 squad, so it was over. It wasn’t resignation, but they needed to start looking for something else. He continued,
“By the second to the final year of high school, you should know what you want to do with your life.”
The second time was the year he believed he’d finished. The coach of the DH under 19 team would tell him,
“If we don’t get promoted this season, I’ll leave you alone.”
Youssouf claims he now plays for enjoyment rather than to become a pro.
He told himself that he would resign and concentrate on his academics six months before the baccalaureate, but Strasbourg saw him and signed him in February 2017. Youssouf worked hard in the reserve squad for a year and a half before signing with Strasbourg. During an interview, Youssouf said that he became extremely emotional after signing his first contract with Strasbourg and that the sensation of getting an offer from a professional team was just amazing. He was willing to sign anything and said yes without even hearing what they were proposing, he recounted. He is now a Monaco player. He promises to offer him the opportunity to go as far as his physique would allow.
