Youn Yuh-jung has left Hook Entertainment, which was recently embroiled in the Lee Seung-gi scandal.

Despite the agency’s firm denial of the actress’s departure in November, just a month later, they released an official statement confirming the news:

“We regret to inform you that our contract with actress Youn Yeo Jung, with whom we have worked since March 2017, has expired. We will continue to pray for her health and see her do well.”

The 75-year-old artist is not only the first Korean to win an Oscar, but also the first Korean actor to receive a Screen Actors Guild Award and a British Academy Film Award. Most recently she appeared in the TV version of the book Pachinko, where she co-starred with actor Lee Min-ho. However, she is not the only artist to leave the company. Lee Seung-gi, a singer and actor, recently announced his departure from Hook Entertainment after 18 years.

The 35-year-old accused the company of not paying fees and revenue for the digital streaming of his songs. Since joining them in 2004, the vocalist has recorded 137 songs, including singles like Because You’re My Woman and Will You Marry Me. According to the artist’s attorneys, the artist was mocked or threatened every time he asked for a transparent settlement of his expenses. The agency said in a statement:

“Lee Seung-gi has concluded that he can no longer rely on Hook Entertainment and its CEO, Kwon Jin-young, whom he considers family.”

Netizens Outrage After Dispatch Unmasks CEO Kwon

Hook Entertainment CEO Kwon is said to have apologized for the Lee Seung-gi incident and confirmed that the payments were debited. Although the amount was not specified, the CEO went on to say that she would be willing to sell her personal possessions to pay the bills. Her apology was strongly condemned by netizens when Dispatch released a recording of her threatening to kill Lee Seung Gi and details of her squandering business finances. Fans call it a “false apology” and demand that she be properly investigated and punished not only for not earning money but also for causing Seung-gi to suffer years of mental torture.
