Lawrence tagged Smith in the video and shared it on his Instagram. Lawrence provided an update on the project in an interview on the cover of Ebony 2022. He stated that the Oscars event would not hinder the production of the film.

He went on to discuss the cultural influence that the first Bad Boys picture, released in 1995, had. He declared:
“It’s huge. It was important to us to get together and show that we could deliver and get people to the box office — that two Black stars, two comedy stars, could make money. at the box office.”
The first installment earned $141 million worldwide in 1995, while the 2003 sequel Bad Boys II grossed $273 million. Bad Boys for Life, the third installment in the series, earned $436 million worldwide, outperforming the previous installments combined.
