The news from PWInsider is that Kevin Dunn, a longstanding executive at WWE, has tendered his resignation and is set to leave the company in the near future. Dunn held the role of Executive Producer & Chief, Global Television Distribution, and has been an integral part of WWE for over thirty years. His announcement of retirement came to WWE this week.
One of the pivotal reasons behind Dunn’s decision seems to be the alterations backstage following the Endeavor purchase and the TKO merger. Sources have indicated that Dunn held a personal approach to production, refusing to comply with dictated changes. This wasn’t linked to creative matters but rather a disparity in views on television production practices, notably in cost-cutting measures Endeavor was implementing.
There were prior speculations regarding Dunn’s potential departure, especially after Vince McMahon’s retirement in July 2022. However, Dunn was requested to remain on the Board of Directors. Yet, with the power shift due to the merger, Dunn’s relationship with WWE underwent changes, considering his historical connection mainly with McMahon.
Kevin Dunn’s reputation previously carried traits of being ‘rash’ and ‘rude’, but this demeanor seemed to soften in the interim period when McMahon was away. Some suggest that McMahon might have exerted pressure on Dunn privately, leading to a change in his conduct.

While Dunn’s replacement remains uncertain, it is speculated that multiple individuals will shoulder his responsibilities. Dunn had already taken a step back in recent weeks, possibly in anticipation of his departure.
Reports from PWInsider clarified that Dunn’s retirement was by choice and not a result of being fired or asked to leave. Despite attempts to persuade him to stay on till events like the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania, Dunn was determined to exit immediately.
Dunn’s departure follows a series of significant departures from WWE in 2023, notably post-TKO Group Holdings’ takeover, where numerous layoffs occurred.
Kevin Dunn has been an instrumental figure in WWE’s television production, shaping its unique style since the inception of Monday Night Raw in 1993. His exit signifies the end of an era, concluding his significant influence over the WWE broadcast style and production quality.
In a company-wide email obtained by PWInsider, WWE President Nick Khan acknowledged Dunn’s departure, praising his immense contribution over 40+ years in building WWE into an unparalleled production and media unit within sports and entertainment.
Despite assumptions about Dunn’s potential dismissal post-Vince McMahon’s retirement in 2022, his exit now signals a new chapter for WWE without one of its long-standing production architects.
