In order to prevent the press and media from differentiating between the stated victims of the attempted murder of infants—five boys and five girls—District Judge Nicholas Sanders of Warrington Magistrates Court invoked Section 45 of the Criminal Procedure Act.
Police reported on November 4, 2020, that all impacted baby parents received support from officers and were kept fully informed of developments. She was taken into custody on Tuesday for the third time as a result of the investigation into pediatric patient deaths at the hospital, which started in 2017.
The nurse was detained twice by the police—once in 2018 and once in 2019—but was released on bail while investigators continued their work. Her home in Chester’s Blacon neighborhood was also investigated by the police after her earlier arrests.
The nurse expressed her concern for the infants in a 2013 interview with the Chester and District Standard newspaper. Additionally, she requires different types of assistance.
Lucy Letby worked as a student nurse at the pediatric ward for the duration of her three years of nursing school. She earned her certification as a pediatric nurse at the University of Chester later in 2011. After graduating from medical school, Lucy began working at the facility, according to Lucy.

Neonatal nurse Letby, according to the prosecutor Nick Johnson KC, allegedly relished “playing God” by hurting infants and then being the first to inform her coworkers of their decline.
She also said things that the prosecution called “portents of doom” as some of her victims started to become worse. She told physicians after her last murder in June 2016 that “He’s not making it out of here alive, is he?” Soon later, the infant triplet boy passed away.
She was aware of what was going to happen, Johnson told the jury. She had the upper hand. She was content with the situation. She was making predictions about events that she knew were inevitable. She was essentially pretending to be God.
Letby was observed acting in an unusual way when babies rapidly decreased, according to parents and staff on multiple occasions. Child I’s parents told authorities they remembered the nurse “smiling and going on about how she was present at [Child I’s] first bath and how much she had loved it” when the infant passed away following many attacks by Letby.
Letby was told by Johnson that she appeared to be “getting a thrill out of what you were watching, the grief and despair in that room.”
Letby looked for the victims’ families on Facebook as well. The prosecution claimed that she frequently looked for several of them quickly after one another, perhaps searching for sorrow one by one. She searched for them on the days that marked the passing of their infants and even on Christmas. The nurse said that she would look for a variety of people, not simply the parents of infants on the ward.
The nurse consistently refuted the prosecution’s assertion that Letby was having a covert connection with a married doctor who worked at the Countess of Chester hospital and who cannot be named for legal reasons.
