Who Killed Jihadi John? British rapper ‘Abdel Bary’ found dead in Spanish prison

British rapper Abdel-Majed Abdel Bary, previously linked to ISIS killer ‘Jihadi’ John, has been found dead in his Spanish prison cell after being tried on terror charges. Prison guards discovered his body when he failed to respond to a wake-up call at El Puerto III Prison in Puerto de Santa Maria, Cadiz. The cause of his death remains unclear, as no obvious signs of violence were reported.

Abdel Bary, who was born in Egypt and attended school in London, lost his British citizenship after being accused of joining ISIS. He faced charges related to his alleged leadership of a roaming jihadist cell formed after leaving Syria. His trial concluded on July 14, and he was awaiting the verdict.

During the trial, he denied all terrorism charges, including posing for a photo with a severed head and uploading it to Twitter with a disturbing caption. He claimed he had never been to the Syrian city of Raqqa and had gone to the country for humanitarian reasons.

Abdel Bary was arrested in April 2020, shortly after being smuggled onto a Spanish beach, along with two aides. Prosecutors revealed that he was the son of Adel Abdel Bari, previously convicted for involvement in Islamist bombings in Africa.

Previously considered a suspect in the ‘Jihadi John’ case, Abdel Bary had gained some success as a rapper before turning to radicalism. He was later associated with a group of British-accented terrorists known as ‘The Beatles,’ responsible for torturing and beheading foreign hostages in Syria.

An internal investigation is underway in the Spanish prison, and his family may conduct their own autopsy in addition to the official one. A separate investigation into his death will also be conducted by a court in El Puerto de Santa Maria.
