On Sunday, American Idol will return to television with another spectacular season, featuring incredible vocalists competing to be the next greatest singer in the country.
Here’s what ABC has to say about the upcoming season:
“Music industry heavyweights and celebrity judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie are helping to choose the last person America will elect to be the next singing phenomenon. Ryan Seacrest, Emmy Award-winning host and producer, is also poised to return to the popular competitive series.”
Season 21 of American Idol will begin on ABC on Sunday, February 19, at 8 p.m. ET.
Meet Zachariah Smith, who will be on American Idol season 21.
Zachariah Smith, a musician, husband and father from Amory, Mississippi who works at Bill’s Hamburgers, is one of the competitors expected to compete on the show. He started singing at the age of 6 and learned to play the guitar at the age of 8. In an interview with Monroe Journal, he said that his main hobbies are singers and entertainers.
He declared:
“Basically, I care about my voice, as well as entertainment and performance. I believe that was the pinnacle of my career.”
At the age of 15, the male singer considered joining American Idol but realized he lacked the necessary expertise. After several years of waiting, he auditioned for the upcoming season in Nashville in front of celebrity judges. In the interview, he also said that now that he’s adjusted to “adult life”, he wants to follow his aspirations. He continued:
“I did it because I believed I had a good chance of getting somewhere with it and having the music career I’ve always wanted.”
Regarding the audition, he recalls that when he arrived, there were probably about 200 to 300 people in the venue, all singing. This got him thinking about how great the American Idol competition is and the talent it presents. He went on to say that while observing so many people was a great experience, “self-doubt” still crept in. He went on to say:
“After I stopped listening to the voices in my brain and got on my horse and started running with it, I started having fun in the process. That motivated me to audition in Nashville and give it my all.”
