The second round of American Idol season 21 auditions will air on ABC this Sunday, February 26 at 8 p.m. ET. The show will feature 14 vocalists competing in a popular music challenge before judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie. Trey Lemley (stage name Trey Louis) is a famous vocalist from Santa Fe, Texas. He started performing and filming videos of himself at work at Mattress Firm, one of which became famous on TikTok and caught the attention of an American Idol director.
Trey Louis, an American Idol contestant, was the victim of the Sante Fe High School massacre.
Trey Louis is a Dallas Cowboys supporter who graduated from Santa Fe High School in 2019. He regularly shares videos of his performance on social media, some of which have become popular, such as: such as You should definitely exit and Shattered Halos. He survived the attack on Sante Fe High School on May 18, 2018 and was saved by a student he didn’t know at the time, Christian Riley Garcia.
In an Instagram post six days after the event, he revealed that he took shelter in a cupboard after the defendant opened fire in his art class. Christian instructs him to flee from the supply locker while he takes on the responsibility of keeping the door open. Trey finds out after going through the back entrance of the school that he is the only one in the class to have successfully escaped. That day, many of his instructors, including Christian Riley Garcia, died. In the article, he stated:
“That’s right. I won’t be like that again. No one in art class will ever be the same again, and these instructors will never be the same… This only strengthens us, and nothing can stop the strength of a strong collective family.”
Ten people died as a result of the tragic incident. Trey now looks forward to portraying her community in a good way, nearly five years after the event. In a conversation with ABC13, he said:
“It was a nice little community that had a terrible accident.”
Laurie, Trey’s mother, also stated in the interview that she realized that God purposed to save him in 2018 and that reason was to do something positive for their community. On TikTok, he has more than 1,150,000 fans. Louis also sang “Stone” by Whiskey Myers in memory of his late friend Chris Stone, who was killed in the attack.

To qualify for the Hollywood Week Challenge, candidates auditioned in Las Vegas, New Orleans, and Nashville. Diamond ticket holders will be able to skip the first round of the tournament and pick their companion duo ahead of the rest. The winner of the music challenge will receive the title of “American Idol” and monetary rewards after many battles in different themes and stages.
