The Next Level Chef returns to FOX on Sunday, February 12, with an all-new season featuring 18 contenders. Tineke Younger, one of the contestants, started cooking while in her sophomore year of high school. This 21-year-old is a social media/TikTok chef competing for the top prize of $250,000.
Gordon Ramsey, Nyesha Arrington, and Richard Blais will serve as mentor chefs for Next Level Chef 2023. According to the show’s concept, each mentor will have six competitors under his or her leadership. Tineke is a member of Richard’s team.
Tineke recounts how she became interested in cooking.
Tineke Younger was born in Frederick, Maryland, and now lives in Evans, Georgia. Her first encounter with the culinary profession came in her sophomore year when she attended the Frederick County Public Schools Career and Technology Center. Tineke was facing terrible scores at the time and was looking for a passion to stay motivated. However, a visit to the center in search of a cosmetology school didn’t give her the motivation she needed until she smelled the food.
In an interview with The Frederick News-Post, the young chef said:
“I completely despise it. “This is not for me,” I thought, and on my way out, I smelled food in the hallway.
She asked about the culinary program and then went back to her alma mater to pursue her new hobby. Tineke further explains:
“Everything was different. I got Ds and Fs. I even got a D in Gymnastics. I made no effort. I don’t care about school. My grades improved after I discovered that I’m really good at cooking and that’s what I love to do.”
She continued to say:
“Because I am not the oldest child, my conduct has also improved. I got into trouble and was taken to the principal’s office. But my behavior changed for the better when I discovered my passion.”
Tineke chose to revise her TikTok profile in 2021 while attending a cooking training course at Frederick Community College’s Monroe Center: Hospitality, Culinary & Tourism Institute and working at a restaurant.
She stated:
“I thought it would be fun, so I filmed it and released it. [on TikTok] tomorrow. There are 14 million views and I have 300,000 followers. It went viral on Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat. It really makes no sense. Celebrities have contacted me.”
One of her posts, in which she created a fried chicken sandwich, has had more than 25 million views. When her follower count exceeded 27,000, the producers of FOX Next Level Chef contacted her. She quickly became a competitor and member of Richard Blais’ team.
